Our clients’ existing 1920s colonial’s interior was dark and needed better access to the surrounding gardens. The home needed a series of alterations and additions to add to the functionality and beauty of the home and to add natural light wherever possible. This project was designed around a multi-phase renovation plan.

Key Design Features

To increase daylight into the home, carefully selected additions were designed using a maximum amount of glass. These additions needed to be scaled to the existing older home, yet be dramatic and enliven both the new and adjacent spaces. A 1.5 story sunroom was built with a tall peaked wooden ceiling, large-scale moldings and windows to expand the view and allow sunlight to penetrate the interior spaces. Glass floor tile, lit from below, contributes to excitement of the room.
To create a sense of openness and to integrate the space with the beautiful surrounding gardens, the kitchen and breakfast room were extended using a peaked ceiling and windows were installed to offer panoramic views.
To generate further excitement, many interesting and fine details were added; a back staircase with newel post crowned with a hand blown glass ball lit from within, a powder room using an existing stone arched wall with new rough stone counter, brackets and a mirror framed in shutters.
