Our clients wanted a home that made efficient use of space and materials, and exuded a sense of drama, beauty, and “lived art”. This 2300 square foot residence features one large flexible-use family space; open kitchen, window-wrapped breakfast nook, and 2 bedrooms and bathrooms located off a private hallway. The great room was designed for people to relax, entertain, study, cook or dine. The focal point of this room is the large fireplace, designed as a sculptural element with lighted niches.

This house uses high quality sustainable materials, efficient fluorescent cove lighting, large double doors and operable windows to catch breezes, broad overhangs for sunlight and temperature control, built-in solar shades, radiant heat flooring and high efficiency boilers. These are some of the defining features of Laura Kaehler Architects’ Responsible Luxury (sm).

This home offers a vision of what future houses can offer discriminating clients who demand extremely high quality while respecting the constraints imposed by increasingly limited space, more costly materials, and the desire and need to built with sustainable resources.
