Park Avenue Duplex
Manhattan, NY

3000 square feet

A former client, building a new duplex apartment in Manhattan, requested that we design and decorate a contemporary interior, utilizing a simple and consistent palette of muted colors with rich textures. Our client had a collection of antique pieces that he wanted us to incorporate into his new space. After an evaluation of his existing furnishings, we devised a strategy to mix both the antiques with new furniture pieces within each room for a cohesive, eclectic look.

Key Design Features

To design a simple, uncluttered apartment interior, we chose to focus on a few rooms and leave the rest as “background”.

To blend, yet also showcase, his antique pieces, we designed new contemporary furniture with bold, crisp lines using a consistent palette of neutral colors.

To make the apartment seem bigger, we designed rooms with several functions, keeping spaces flexible in use.

To allow the eye to flow past the building supplied elevator door, we disguised it by installing a pair of French doors in front with frosted glass panels and dark stained wood frames.

To highlight his collectibles, we designed a simple open shelved lighted cabinet that does double duty by housing both dishware and audio video components below.
